Our first, and most fruitful, partnership was formed with our landlord Max Heyde. Max has been on our side for two years now, giving us encouragement and real support with our rent costs and space needs. Without him we probably would not have survived our start-up. Max and Sabine have always been supportive and ready to share new ideas. Our second partnership is with the City of Cranbrook. Whether elected people or staff, the City of Cranbrook is always ready to talk over ideas, share information, and partner in specific projects. Our next joint undertaking is a series of public interpretation signs highlighting aspects of Cranbrook’s past. Watch for these this spring. The Columbia Basin Institute is very excited about the possibility of a series of signs throughout Cranbrook, and throughout the Basin, telling the great stories of our community and region. We know we are not successful without partners. The smaller partnerships with our members are also very important. The memberships help us to pay the bills and encourage others to become involved, offer new ideas and directions, and make the Institute a regional research organization. Become a partner today! OUR PARTNERS At the Columbia Basin Institute of Regional History we have taken it upon ourselves to make history more accessible. One important element of this initiative is our website, a digital archive reflecting the history we seek to preserve. The site will feature a free public area where anyone can search our database and retrieve abstracts from historical documents and thumbnail views of images, all of which have either been donated to the Institute or otherwise compiled by our research team. Also available to the public will be articles published by the Institute, highlighting different periods in time, people and places in a context that can be readily absorbed by even the most casual reader. For the more immersed researcher who wants to investigate further into our holdings, there will be an area available only to members. The Institute membership will provide access to the entire online repository containing complete transcriptions of historical documents, high resolution photographs, postcards and maps, and audio recordings. As part of our multimedia venture, the Institute has recently invested in some cutting-edge recording equipment to conduct interviews with people who possess invaluable knowledge about times past. Parts of the recorded interviews will then be placed on our website for online listening. While our webmaster is hard at work preparing the website for its impending launch, www.basininstitute.org is online with a few pages featuring some of the projects we have been involved with in the last year. Check out the site often as new features develop. The Future History of our Your Logo Here!
